# Will AssemblyAI sign a Business Associate Addendum (BAA) as described in the HIPAA rules and regulations?

AssemblyAI enables covered entities and their business associates subject to HIPAA to use the AssemblyAI services to process protected health information (PHI). AssemblyAI is considered a business associate under HIPAA, and we offer a standard Business Associate Addendum (BAA) that is required under HIPAA to ensure that AAI appropriately safeguards PHI.

You can review our [standard Business Associate Addendum (BAA)](https://www.assemblyai.com/legal/business-associate-agreement).

Paid customers can review and sign our standard online BAA terms self-serve, at no additional cost, from the [**Data Controls** page](https://www.assemblyai.com/dashboard/settings/data-controls) in the AssemblyAI dashboard. Only members with the **Owner** or **Admin** role can sign. For more detail, see [Data Controls](/data-controls#business-associate-agreement-baa).

<Note>
  You must have an upgraded (paid) account to see the option to initiate a BAA in the dashboard. Free accounts do not see the BAA controls — [upgrade to a paid plan](https://www.assemblyai.com/dashboard/pricing) first.
</Note>

<Note>
  Create your AssemblyAI account before completing the BAA agreement.
</Note>

<Note>
  Once you have signed a BAA, you are automatically opted out of the model improvement program upon signature, and files submitted under the BAA are not used for model training.
